The Tuscan Maremma area is a harsh land with a varied countryside, able to bring out the most vivid of emotions in its visitors with its rolling hills that dissolve from the dark green shades of the forests to the deep blue color of the sea. The Maremma’s charm comes from its nature, in many respects still very wild, and its historical traditions very rooted in the men and women that have lived on this unforgiving land for generations and taking from it life and sustenance. For this reason the gastronomic traditions of the Maremma are unique: distinct flavors and genuine and simple dishes that have remained unchanged over the course of time. The beauty of the Maremma lies in the simplicity of its notably untouched nature combined with the history and culture of its people.
The picturesque and uncontaminated countryside represents the ideal location for the raising of sheep and cattle, also present in the wild. Within the recorded history the culinary traditions of the Maremma have been created using land-based recipes, characterized by genuine and simple ingredients, just as nature made them.
